The Costa Tropical is one of those corners of Andalucía made to be enjoyed on two wheels. Good weather almost all year round, roads full of gentle bends along the sea, white villages clinging to the mountainside and viewpoints where you can stop to catch your breath… and take photos of your bike, of course.

Riding on the Costa Tropical has several advantages for any biker:

Mild weather all year round: even in winter it is easy to find sunny days and pleasant temperatures.
A variety of landscapes within a few kilometres: in less than an hour you go from the beach to mountain roads with panoramic views.
Real biker roads: national and regional roads with good tarmac, linked bends and little traffic if you know where to go.
Charming villages: Nerja, La Herradura, Salobreña, Almuñécar or the white villages inland are must-see stops to combine riding, food and culture.

Motorcycle routes on the Costa Tropical: bends, viewpoints and white villages

Route 1: From Nerja to La Herradura along the coast and the cliffs

Ideal if… it is your first day riding in the area or you want a short half-day route.

Approximate distance: 60–80 km (there and back with variations).
Type of road: coast, cliffs and some stretches of gentle bends.

Suggested itinerary:

Departure from Nerja
Start the route by leaving Nerja towards Almuñécar on the N-340. As soon as you leave the town behind, the road starts treating you to views of the Mediterranean, short tunnels and really fun bends.
Mirador de Cerro Gordo
A classic stop for any biker. From here you will have an incredible panoramic view of the cliffs and the sea. The perfect spot for photos with your BMW F800 GS or your Harley parked in front of the blue of the Mediterranean.
Descent to La Herradura
The descent towards La Herradura combines gentle bends with short straights. It is a very rewarding stretch for enjoying the bike without going fast, simply flowing with the road.
Stop on the seafront promenade
In La Herradura there are several beach bars and restaurants where you can have a drink, eat fresh fish or a good rice dish by the sea before continuing the route.
Return on the same road or an inland variant
For the way back you can repeat the coastal stretch or combine it with an inland road towards Otívar or Jete if you fancy more mountains.

Route 2: Costa Tropical + white villages inland

Ideal if… you want a full day on the bike combining sea and mountains.

Approximate distance: 180–220 km.
Type of road: coast, mountain passes, rural roads.

Suggested itinerary:

Departure from La Herradura / Almuñécar
Follow the coast towards Salobreña and Motril, enjoying the N-340 and its stretches by the sea.
Detour towards Los Guájares or La Contraviesa
From the Motril area you can head inland on very charming secondary roads. These are mountain stretches, with tighter bends and very authentic villages.
White villages and viewpoints
Make stops to enjoy the views and the rural Andalusian atmosphere. These roads are perfect for adventure bikes such as the BMW F800 GS, which feels comfortable both on perfect tarmac and on narrower, more broken stretches. Tropical Riders
Return to the coast by a different route
You can close the loop by heading back to the Costa Tropical on another secondary road, enjoying a sunset over the sea as you return to your accommodation.

Route 3: Costa Tropical + link to Sierra Nevada

If you want some extra mountain riding, the Costa Tropical is the gateway to Sierra Nevada and the La Alpujarra area, a real gem for motorcycle touring.

Approximate distance: 220–280 km depending on the route.
Type of road: coast, mountains, high passes.

The idea is to set off from the coast, ride up one of the roads that connect with Granada or the Alpujarra and string together passes, viewpoints and villages such as Lanjarón, Órgiva or Pampaneira, then head back down to the sea. Tropical Riders

Tips for making the most of motorcycle routes on the Costa Tropical

Avoid the middle of the day in summer: the heat can be intense. Setting off early or riding in the afternoon is the best option.
Check the bike carefully: if you rent with Tropical Riders, we hand over the bike fully checked, but even so, check tyre pressure and fuel level before setting off. Tropical Riders
Wear ventilated but protective clothing: there are lots of bends, and even if the pace is relaxed, it is important to be well equipped.
Stay hydrated and stop every hour and a half: the viewpoints and villages along the coast are the perfect excuse to rest and take photos.
Respect speed limits and local traffic: many roads pass close to residential areas and small villages.
